my usb flash drive just died on me. Lost a ton of code. good thing my major project is on my FTP server. This kinda sucks though. I had a lot of good stuff on it.
flash drives's , sd cards or any other cheap memory storage I would never rely on for valuable data storage. Mainly because they malfunction so easily. When I do use a flash drive or something I keep a back up of that flash drive.
I worked on a project team and our designer lost all their PSDs because they ONLY had them on a flash drive that she brought to and from work. She was fired. You gotta backup, backup, and as bluegman said. Never trust cheap memory.
Its not completely dead. Thing is I don't have my own comp till next week. I been using my a new comp every other week and people don't like my storing my work on there and some work I cant due to privacy issue's. My major projects have been backed on my FTP's, but experiments havn't been.
You sure it's completly dead? they maybe area's you can recover on the disk.. depending on how it's failed. Use on-line backup.. like Dropbox or SkyDrive.
You might want to try debugging you USB Hub driver, I had this problem a few days back: all my data kept on ending up as corrupted.
Take it to PC world they charge something like £10 and will give you all the info from the USB (note: the USB wont be useable anymore.)
